Cummins and Hyundai CE jointly launched a small electric excavator

Recently, Volvo has driven an all-electric excavator called EX1 into a quarry, where it will begin a 10-week electric field test. At the same time, Cummins and Hyundai Construction Equipment teamed up to develop a small electric excavator.

Hyundai D S Kim said that as electric vehicles in the automotive market continue to expand, they also saw the potential of many people to electrify commercial power systems as solutions for environmentally friendly and economically sustainable building equipment.

The modern CE-built excavator uses eight Cummins BM4.4E lithium-ion battery modules that are mounted on the base of the vehicle. It is reported that the total battery capacity is 35.2kWh, and it can supply enough power for 3 hours of charging. If you want to be full, you need to charge it for 8 hours.

But the project for this small electric excavator is still in the prototyping phase, and it will need to be further optimized for performance and proof of concept.
